This is an exciting opportunity to join EWB-USA and contribute to meaningful impact! The Volunteer Coordinator supports Engineers Without Borders USA’s programs by coordinating volunteer recruitment, onboarding, communications, and engagement initiatives across multiple programs. This position works closely with staff, volunteers, and partner organizations to ensure volunteers are supported throughout their engagement.


The coordinator plays a key role in supporting volunteer chapters, facilitating project team onboarding and recruitment, coordinating volunteer orientations, leadership development, and maintaining systems and communications that support the volunteer journey. This role contributes to creating a positive and rewarding volunteer experience while helping EWB-USA expand the reach and impact of its programs.

Responsibilities / Tasks

  • Support volunteer recruitment and project matching efforts by developing recruitment materials, identifying and reaching out to potential volunteers or chapters, and assisting with matching volunteers to domestic projects based on skills, interests, and availability.

  • Coordinate onboarding and support for volunteer teams and chapters, including coordinating chapter eligibility, managing chapter agreements, supporting chapter officers, assisting with new chapter applications, and providing ongoing chapter guidance.

  • Host informational sessions to onboard volunteer teams and clarify project expectations and processes.

  • Provide general project and volunteer support across programs, including responding to volunteer inquiries, assisting with staff requests, updating resources, and helping volunteers navigate participation opportunities.

  • Facilitate travel orientations for project teams to ensure volunteers are well prepared and understand safety protocols, logistics, and volunteer expectations.

  • Improve the overall volunteer experience through volunteer journey mapping, while supporting engagement initiatives that improve the volunteer experience, retention, and overall sustainability. 

  • Coordinate volunteer recognition initiatives, including planning and supporting key events and campaigns that celebrate and elevate volunteer contributions throughout the year. Support and coordinate volunteer-facing communications by maintaining an annual communications calendar, coordinating timelines for messaging, and drafting or coordinating volunteer-related communications in collaboration with internal teams across various platforms.

  • Serve as a point of contact for volunteer inquiries related to programming and provide timely responses and support.

  • Assist with program coordination activities, including tracking project engagement, maintaining records within volunteer management systems, and supporting cross-program collaboration.

  • Participate in internal meetings and administrative activities, including staff meetings, program coordination meetings, and other operational responsibilities.

  • Collaborate with staff across departments and partner organizations to ensure volunteers and projects are supported and aligned with EWB-USA’s mission.

Supervisory & Budget Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience working with volunteers, community organizations, or volunteer-led teams.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office.

Desired Skills and Attributes

  • At least 2–3 years of experience in volunteer coordination, nonprofit program coordination, or related roles.

  • Experience with Salesforce or volunteer management platforms.

  • Experience working with volunteer chapters or member-based organizations.

  • Experience coordinating volunteer orientations, trainings, or informational sessions.

  • Familiarity with infrastructure, engineering, or community development programs.

  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills.

  • EWB-USA volunteer experience.

  • Passion for EWB-USA’s mission and vision.

Location: Preference may be given to Denver-based applicants. Flexible location options may be considered for the following states (CO, DE, FL, MI, NY, OH, OR, UT). Occasional travel to Denver may be required.
