Title: Kenya Program Coordinator - Consultant

Responsibilities and Tasks:

EWB-USA is seeking to engage a full-time Kenya program coordinator consultant on a contractor basis to support ongoing community development and infrastructure project work in Kenya. 

Primary responsibilities for the consultant will include:

  • Ongoing support of current NGO partners as it relates to operations, community development, and successful completion of infrastructure projects

  • Identification and vetting of potential new partners including NGO’s, Government agencies, and international organizations 

  • Conduct project vetting visits and complete accompanying documentation reports for community partnership / projects opportunities 

  • Contribute to the development of NGO partner and Kenya country strategies for EWB-USA operations 

  • Support community training initiatives around operation and maintenance of infrastructure and best practices for community-based organizations 

  • Support partner training and capacity strengthening activities

  • Maintain regular contact and communication with EWB-USA staff located in the United States through email, digital meetings and phone

  • Complete monitoring and evaluation activities for active and completed infrastructure projects

  • Support convening and collaboration of current and future partners around operation and strategy workshops 

Additional responsibilities for the consultant may include:

  • Identify contractors, engineers, and subject matter experts to support the delivery of EWB-USA projects 

  • Provide quality control oversight and reporting of construction activities for ongoing project work

  • Support grant prospecting, grant applications and grant management for funding 

  • Support the coordination of ongoing project work across communities, NGO partners, EWB-USA volunteers, contractors and additional stakeholders

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 5+ years experience with community development / engagement in underserved communities/populations

  • 3+ years experience working with or for NGOs or comparable knowledgeable about the NGO sector in Kenya

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form in English

  • Kenya national based in Nairobi, Kenya

  • Able to travel throughout the country to project sites, often in rural areas, for multiple days at a time

Preferred:

  • Experience working with international volunteers 

  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders including government agencies, donors, organizations

  • Experience working with international NGOs 

  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation, including developing impact stories

  • Experience pursuing grants, donors, and funding

  • Experience delivering water, sanitation, energy, agricultural and structural projects including planning, design, construction

As a full-time consultant for EWB-USA, you’ll enjoy:

  • Expense reimbursement for costs related to travel including transportation, lodging, and meals based on the submission of appropriate receipts 

  • Working independently, the contractor will be determine when and how the deliverables are accomplished

  • Invoice EWB-USA on a task/project basis

  • Contractor may engage other clients/customers at any time 

Location:

The consultant is intended to be based in Nairobi, Kenya with the ability to travel to support partnership development and project work. Remote work with US-based staff and volunteers will be required. The estimated time commitment for invoice is 40-hours per week; however, work hours, schedule, and days will be determined by consultant.
